A girl that does yoga…..
Everyone has been asking what’s that song that says “a girl that does yoga.”
Here it is…Damien Rice (artist) - Dogs (name of the song)

Reflexology & Yoga
If you use yoga practice as part of your overall health agenda, you really should add reflexology as well. I recently went to see Kelly Gary, Lubbock Reflexologist, to get first reflexology massage. I left with one of the best experiences of my life, no joke! Haley had been pushing me to go see her for some time. I’m covered in aches and pains from boxing and college football and she felt it would help tremendously. She was absolutely right! After an hour session my body felt detoxed, I had virtually no pain and had actually fallen into a deep sleep on the table from being so relaxed.
So here was my experience. If you haven’t meet Kelly Gary, she practices at the Yoga Stand and the second you meet her you feel she could be your second mom. What you don’t see right away is how well she understands reflexology and its purpose to heal. I went home after yoga practice, took a shower and tried to make my feet as pretty and clean as possible (‘cause I’m nice like that), and visited Kelly. The sessions start with shoes off and sitting in a reclining chair. She started touching my feet and immediately started rambling everything that was wrong with me without me ever telling her. I had eye surgery in January, which she asked about. I have a very tight upper back, she asked me about it, had a dislocated shoulder, she felt that too. By this point, I was blown away by what she knew without me telling her.
Then she started working. Palpating different areas on my feet to break up calcification and release blocks throughout my body that preventing healing and allowed discomfort and pain to remain. Stress in the body eventually makes it way to the feet lingering, staying for days, months and years. A trained reflexologist can use pressure points like a deep massage to release pressure, improve circulation and allow the body to heal naturally. As for a feeling of a deep massage, I actually feel in a deep dream like state for 45 minutes of the hour treatment and I wasn’t tired when I went. I just had that much tension that I had just gotten used to carrying everyday.
Reflexology has become a part of my family’s health agenda. Combining Yoga and reflexology can help the body heal naturally from many conditions. Kelly’s business cards are at the studio (806 368 3740) and you should go visit her at least once and draw your own conclusions. Compliments from L.A.
“Go take yoga at The Yoga Stand! I visited Lubbock recently and recommend owner Haley Bevers’ studio with top grades. Any level student, beginner to advanced, will feel challenged but not intimidated by the warm vibe here. You can’t help but leave stronger, more flexible and at peace in your body when your class is through. You’ll be happy you came.”

Want to detox? Think of your feet!
By Erick Dannenberg and Haley Bevers
For years I’ve wanted to find more and more ways to detox my body. Everything we eat, touch and inhale affects our body in some form or fashion. People that know me know that I am very careful about what I eat, but before that I spent years abusing myself with bad food, unhealthy supplements and what some claim to be lethal doses of California’s finest wines.
I heard about this ionic footbath! What is it? You place your feet into a tub filled of water and an ionic rod goes right between both feet. You actually feel nothing while the process is happening, but you see everything. So what happened after years of abusing my body? Slowly the water started filling up with toxins, fat, oils, poisons, metals, parasites, and who knows what else. All I know is what was in the water was the last thing I wanted in my body! After the footbath, my body felt light, my joints didn’t hurt, I felt very clear headed, I felt cleansed. I followed this up with an essential oil cleanse for several days after the footbath. I felt good as new a couple weeks later! What a great experience. Footbaths have become monthly, I wish weekly, gage for how my body is doing. It’s amazing that the water color can tell the whole story of your body. You can see if you liver needs more cleansing than the kidneys or if it’s your lymph system that needs to be cleansed. Cleansing combined with a healthy diet produces amazing results for your well being.
If you want to experience this go to www.essentiallyangelic.com or call Terri at 806-445-2213. You can also talk to Haley or Erick. Be cleansed!!!
Hot, Sweaty Mess by Erick Dannenberg
I remember my first class of Baptise Power Vinyasa Yoga better then I remember my first kiss. I was moved, excited, inspired, and absolutely drenched!!! While Baptise yoga can bring amazing aspects to your mind, body and soul, at a loss of 1-3 pounds due to water lose during class it can also leave you a hot sweaty mess. Years of cycling gave me at times an unwanted education on the importance of hydration and its affects on performance. Water is very important, but as the summer approaches it may not be enough to keep the body hydrated depending on the number of practices of yoga done weekly. So to stay hydrated here are some simple ways of preventing dehydration*:
1. Daily intake of 8–10 glasses of water (8 oz. per glass) for normal activity, not including exercise.
2. At least 2 hours prior to exercise, drink 16 oz. of water or fluid without caffeine.
3. If possible, determine body weight while hydrated, prior to exercise.
4. During exercise, drink frequently and early, before you are actually thirsty. Your goal is to replenish fluids at the same rate you are sweating. The maximal rate of replacement is between 20–40 oz. per hour, based on absorption of fluid by the stomach.
5. After exercise, evaluate change in body weight. Consume fluids to return to body weight prior to exercise.
All of these suggestions should be part of your daily routine but to really keep the body hydrated I want to share a little trick I learned from years of being an athlete, glycerol or vegetable glycerin. You can find it at your grocery store in the health section or cosmetic section. Half a teaspoon in your water or sports drink. Glycerin is sweet tasting and looks like clear syrup but once in water or a sports drink it can nearly be tasted. Glycerin will help draw water into the bloodstream increasing pre workout body water and decreasing pre workout urination**. In other words, as your sweat increases during your practice you have more water in your body to start with and keep more water during your practice. A little vegetable glycerin will keep your body functioning at a much healthier level!
